The administrative simplification provisions of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA) affect businesses of all types, not just health care providers. Under HIPAA, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) has set standards for the protection of individually identifiable health information. These standards cover several specific areas of concern including, among others, privacy, security, electronics transactions, and enforcement.
Our attorneys have a wide range of practical experience in HIPAA compliance and implementation matters. We have prepared policies, authorization forms, and contracts, including business associate agreements, notices of privacy practices, and plan amendments for our clients. We have educated and counseled management and medical staffs of health care providers and both fully insured and self-insured group health plans regarding HIPAA requirements.
We also have significant experience in advising and defending our clients in the broader areas of health information management and patient confidentiality. |
