Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine reversed his prior county-by-county mask requirements by announcing on July 22, 2020 that masks will be mandatory across the entire state of Ohio effective at 6:00 pm on Thursday, July 23, 2020.
Masks must be worn in any indoor location that is not a residence, DeWine said, or when individuals are outdoors and unable to maintain an appropriate social distance of 6 feet or more.
The mask ordinance does not apply to anyone under the age of 10, the Governor said. In addition, the following individuals are exempt from wearing masks:
- Those with a medical condition or a disability, or those communicating with someone with a disability.
- Those who are actively exercising or playing sports.
- Those who are officiants at religious services.
- Those who are actively involved in public safety.
- Those who are actively eating or drinking.
The mandate will be enforced by state and local authorities, not by businesses.
DeWine also issued a travel advisory recommending a 14-day self-quarantine for anyone who leaves the state to visit any state with a 15 percent positivity rate for COVID-19 tests and returns to Ohio (or visitors from those states coming into Ohio).
